Around 655 folk musical instruments have been displayed in the museum to collect, preserve, and glorify Nepali folk musical instruments.

Kathmandu: The Music Museum of Nepal has been playing a vital role in preserving traditional folk instruments.

This museum not only reflects the diversity of the cultural sector but also that of the musical field. The museum has been preserving folk musical instruments.

The museum was located in Bhadrakali in the earlier days. However, due to the congested area, the museum was shifted to Tripureshwor later.

Nepal is the home of various ethnic groups. There are more than 100 ethnic groups, which have their abstract traditions and customs. Ethnic groups like Gaine, Damai, and Badi have adopted folk music as their profession.

All the groups have respective folk instruments to play on different occasions, residing in the native communities. Each ethnic group has a wide range of musical instruments to play on various occasions, including birth and death.

Around 655 folk musical instruments have been displayed in the museum to collect, preserve, and glorify Nepali folk musical instruments. According to the study of the museum, there are 1350 types of musical instruments in Nepal.
