Kathmandu: Hindu Devotees, around the globe, are celebrating Ram Navami on Wednesday.

According to the Hindu scripture ‘Ramayana,’ the festival is being celebrated in memory of “Maryada Purushottam” Shri Ram. Lord Ram is the incarnation of Lord Visnu. Based on 16 qualities, Ram is called Maryada Purushottam.

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Chowpatty has listed the 16 qualities (in Sanskrit)as Guṇavān, Vīryavān, Dharmajñaḥ, Kṛtajñaḥ, Satya Vākyo, Dhṛḍha vrataḥ, Cāritreṇa ca ko yuktaḥ, Sarva bhūteṣu ko hitaḥ, Vidvān , Samarthaḥ, Eka priya darśanaḥ, ātmavān, Jita Krodho, Dyutimān, Anasūyakaḥ, and Kasya bibhyati Devāḥ ca Jāta Roṣasya Saṃyuge.

Lord Ram was born as an ordinary human being and displayed his immaculate character and conduct. He showed a path to the people about how one should follow dharma and lead a life of righteousness.

Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya on the day of Chaitra Shukla Navami in Treta Yuga and killed the demon Ravana for the welfare of society.

Along with worshipping Lord Ram, devotees also worshipped Adhya Shakti Navadurga Bhawani as the festival falls in the middle of Chaitra Navarati. Devotees today take a bath and go to Ram Temple to pay homage.

Likewise, a grand fair will be held in Ram Janaki Temple at Janakpur to celebrate Ram Navami. Thousands of devotees, from Nepal and India, will visit the temple.

Similarly, the Ram Temple located in Battisputali was crowded with devotees since the early morning. Devotees from different places came to worship Lord Shri Ram.
