Russia continues aerial attack on Ukraine’s capital

Kathmandu: Russia has launched a wave of air attacks on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Ukraine’s air defence forces destroyed more than 20 drones as Russia continues the bombardment of Kyiv, the military administration of the Ukrainian capital said early on Tuesday.

At least one person died and four were injured when falling debris from a destroyed Russia-launched air target hit a high-rise apartment building early on Tuesday, sparking a fire.

Calling it a ‘massive’ attack launched in several waves, Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app that Russia conducted the assault using Iranian-made Shahed drones only.

The air attacks come just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the country’s air defence units for saving hundreds of lives by shooting down a barrage of Russian drones and missiles aimed at the capital and other locations.

Tuesday’s attack was the third aerial attack on the city in 24 hours, following two attacks on Monday. It was not immediately known how many drones Russia launched.
