Kathmandu: This year’s Shri Kanti Bhairav’s Sindoor Jatra has been celebrated.

Every year, this festival is celebrated from Baishak Krishna Chaturdashi at Gorkarneshwor, Kathmandu. It is believed that the Jatra began during the reign of King Mandev. There is a belief that Lord Bhairav visited his mother’s house to see her face on Baisakh Krishna Aushi.

Likewise, the celebration of the jatra begins in the early morning of the Aunsi by carrying Bhairav’s Khat to the mother temple i.e. Kantibhairavi. The celebration will last till Akshay Tritiya.

People believe that Sindoor Jatra was performed to bid farewell to the son Bhairav from his mother’s temple.
