Anton Chekhov’s ‘Bet’ at Shilpee (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: The staging of the drama ‘Baaji’ based on the Russian writer Anton Chekhov’s short story “The Bet” has begun at Shilpee Theatre, Battisputali.

The drama began on 6 May (Baishakh, 24). Artist Rabin Pariyar directed and adapted the story into the drama. Pariyar has directed the drama for the first time.

Russian writer Anton Chekhov wrote “The Bet” in 1889, which contains a thought-provoking story. Chekov portrayed a story about a banker and a young lawyer who bet with each other following a conversation about whether the death penalty is better or worse than life in prison.

The story also explores human nature, morality, and the pursuit of knowledge. The adapted drama of the story attempts to define the difference between the value of physical property and moral property.

Anup Timlisina composed the music for the play ‘Baaji‘. Prem Chand has taken responsibility for the lighting. The responsibility of the costume goes to Sangeeta Uranv.

Likewise, Govind Oli, Sumit Bhandari, Shushil Bishwakarma, Dhanraj Sunar, Rabin Pariyar, and Jaya Prakash Tajpuria are actors in the play.

The drama will be staged every day at 5:30 p.m. except on Tuesday. There is also an additional show on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The drama will conclude on 12 May (Baishakh, 30).
