Nepal’s first ‘Hill Station’ (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: Kanyam which lies at an altitude of 1565 meters above sea level, is considered one of the famous ‘hill stations’ in the eastern region of Nepal.

Located at Suryodaya Municipality -6, Illam the area is a popular tourist destination. It is crowded with domestic and foreign tourists and views of Jhapa, Sri Antu Hill, Samalbung, and Pashupatinagar can be seen during clear weather.

Likewise, to tour tourists around the tea plantation there are arrangements for horses and ‘dart carts’. A craze of visitors taking photo sessions in Rai and Limbu’s traditional dress can be found in tea plantations.

Trees of Dhupi and Salla species standing in the middle of the tea plantation add beauty to the garden at Kanyam. Before the Government used to own garden under Nepal Tea Development Corporation Limited. However, it is now owned by Tribeni Group.

According to government data, the cultivation of tea plantations is being done in an area of 4,300 acres in Kanyam.
