Kathmandu: Islam devotees are celebrating Eid-ul Fitr across the country on Thursday.

It is celebrated to mark the beginning of Shawwal month, after the end of Hijri Samwat (Ramadan). Islam devotees who have been fasting throughout Ramadan, are going to the mosque, to celebrate Eid-ul Fitr.

According to the Hijri Samwat calendar, the month of Shawwal began on 11 April 2024(Chaitra 29) Thursday, after the end of Ramadan on Wednesday.

Likewise, the first day of Shawwal is celebrated as Eid. Ramadan is 9th month as per Hijri tradition.

In Islamic tradition, there is a belief that this month the Holy Quran descended on the earth. Based on that they fast all day, without eating in the month of Ramadan, and pray to Allah for good thoughts, good behavior, and good deeds.

Similarly, they give donations to the poor which is called ‘Zakat’ in Islamic tradition.
