Kathmandu: The staging of the drama “Matilda” is underway at Mandala Theatre, Thapagaun.

The play is based on Roald Dahl‘s famous children’s book with the same name. British writer Dahl was born in Wales.

He has remarkable contribution in the field of children’s literature, story, and screenwriting. Dahl’s novel Matilda was published on October 1, 1988.

The novel was adapted into a movie in 1996. The novel has been adapted in drama by different drama companies in different time frame.

The Royal Shakespeare Company is one of the drama companies to adpat the novel into “Matilda the Musical.”

And the adaptation of the drama is not a piece of cake for every company as the production has to work on both script and musical. Without the perfect blend of atleast these two factors, it is tough to create the magical impression upon the audience.

The drama reflects the struggle and victory of the intelligent girl Matilda, who is portrayed as a “gifted” child.

Matilda is abandoned by her parents and school.She uses her intellectual abilities and ‘telekinetic’ powers to fight injustice. Her life starts to become more joyful with the help of her teacher Miss Honey Jasti.

Although Maltida is written in English, it has been translated into more than 50 languages due to its popularity.

Imperial World School adapted the English novel into drama. Nidhi Dhamala, Shriyashi Gautam, Shreeja Khanal, Khusal Lama, Deepasha Gurung, and other students were the main actors in a drama. Tanka Chaulagain is the director of the drama.

The drama will be staged every day at 5:00 p.m. The drama began from 10 February (Magh 28) will conclude on 13 February (Falgun 1).
