Kathmandu: The residents of Madhyapur Thimi in Bhaktapur have celebrated the Sindoor Jatra.

On Tuesday, following the Nepali New Year, the locals of Madhyapur Thimi celebrated the festival with great enthusiasm, involving 32 khats.

Among the many festivals celebrated in Madhyapur Thimi during Bisket Jatra, the Sindoor Jatra with 32 khats is one of the most prominent. During this festival, people throw Vermillion (sindoor) at each other while dancing and playing traditional music.

With the sounds of traditional instruments like kāyā baja, bhusyā baja, and Dhime Baja, the palanquins of deities are paraded around, and people smear vermillion on one another and enjoy the celebration together.

The residents of Thimi joyfully celebrate the festival by playing with Vermillion and parading the idol of Balkumari around various areas. People of all ages, from children to the elderly, participate in the festival. It is regarded as the biggest festival in Madhyapur Thimi.
