“Meshi Dand”-Portrayal of Rana’s Suppression on Khalis Rai community (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: The staging of the drama “Meshi Dand” (मेषी दण्ड) has begun in Mandala Theatre, Thapagaun. The staging of the drama, “Meshi Dand” (which is pronounced as Mekhi Danda) began on July 2 (Shrawan 5).

The drama is based on the incident of nearly a century ago. The story revolves around how the then-Rana rulers used to suppress the language, culture, and typical lifestyle of the Indigenous Khalis Rai community.

The painful experience of the Khalis Rai community, based in Solukhumbu, facing challenges regarding the language, has been portrayed in “Meshi Dand.”

Pratina Rai, Mani K Rai, Arun Poudel, Jay Dhakal, Pratish Gurung, Salina Bhujel, Purna Bahadur Gandharva, Amar Budhathoki, Ramita Rai, Sanjay Bishwakarma, Lahna Rai, Janjit Thulung Rai, Ajay Lama, Shayok Mukarung, Ramita Rai, Saujan Limbu, Sanjeev Yogi, and Praveen Magar are the actors who have given life to the characters.

Gilu Ratos wrote the drama. The concept and direction credit goes to Anil Subba. Rijan K.C. is the producer of the play. “Meshi Dand” is a presentation of Mandala Theatre Nepal.

Mandala Theatre envisioned to showcase 14 dramas within 2024. Out of those 14 dramas, this was the second one. The first one, “Andhabeg” has already been staged.

“Meshi Dand” will be staged every day at 5:45 p.m. except on Monday. There is an additional show on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The last show of the drama is on July 13 (Shrawan 27).
