Artist Che Shakar translated the Russian playwright and short story writer Anton Chekhov’s drama ‘Marriage Proposal’ into Nepali.

Kathmandu: The staging of the drama ‘Marriage Proposal’ is going on at Kunja Theatre, Thapagaun.

Kalaasi Production collaborated with Karman Kala for the making of the drama. Artist Che Shakar translated the Russian playwright and short story writer Anton Chekhov’s drama ‘Marriage Proposal‘ into Nepali.

The drama is based on the theme of the 1890s. The comedy drama has been prepared making the subject matter contextual for the Nepali society.

There are 4 main characters in the drama. Vijaya Karki, Doresh Khatiwada, Chandra Nepali, and Sundar Dhital have given life to the characters. Sangeet Sapkota and Ashish Ghimire are the directors of the drama.

Likewise, the drama was staged at Mandala Theatre in 2018. The play was also staged at the Kumbha Festival, in Allahabad, India in 2019. The drama was also staged at the Bangabandhu Theatre Festival in Rajshahi, Bangladesh.

Kalaasi Production produced the drama as its first project in 2018. It has successfully staged plays including  ’24 Ma 12’, ‘Adheri  Nagari Chaupat Raja’, ‘Gyanko Chihan’, and ‘Samaya Pida’.

The drama will be staged every day at 5:30 p.m. except Monday, till 9 June (Jestha 27). There is also an additional show on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The drama is around 1 hour and 10 minutes duration.

The staging of the drama began on 23 May 2024 (Jestha 10, 2081).
