1. Jokh Bahadur Mahara appointed as Lumbini Province Chief Minister

CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Jokh Bahadur Mahara has been appointed as Lumbini Province Chief Minister. The Province Chief Amik Sherchan appointed Mahara as Chief Minister. He has the support of 48 Members of Parliament (MPs) from 29 CPN (UML), 10 CPN (Maoist Centre), 4 (Nagarik Unmukti), 3 Janata Samajwadi Party, 3 CPN (UML), 1-1 CPN(Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Swatantra Party. According to the Province Chief Office, Mahara will take an oath on Sunday.

2. Minister Shrestha: Experts should make decision on whether to dismiss or keep SEE

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has said that experts would decide whether to dismiss the Secondary Education Examination (SEE)or keep it. Organizing a press meeting on Friday, Minister Shrestha said those statement, she said that experts should be deciding whether to keep or dismiss. ‘Experts should decide whether to dismiss SEE or not. Exams should be viewed from which students need help and where angle, rather than a matter of stress. And expertise should be saying this, not the Ministry,’ said Minister Shrestha.

3. PM Dahal stresses on implementation of timely curriculum based on innovation

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the need to develop and implement a timely curriculum based on innovation. Addressing the 14th Senate Meeting of the Mid-West University on Friday, PM Dahal called on the University to pay attention to restructuring the curriculum and the development of the physical and human resources. ‘The guiding principles, policies, and program adopted by the University for attaining educational excellence, economic growth, curriculum restructuring, international relations and exchanges, and infrastructure development are also praiseworthy,’ said PM Dahal.

4. Oli: New political equation remains intact

CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has pledged to keep the existing ruling equation consolidated. Addressing to the Ninth District Convention of CPN UML, Syangja on Friday, he claimed the existing coalition would remain intact. He took time to question the foundation of the previous alliance, which he argued as collapsed due to its weakness. Likewise, Oli said that the new coalition aims to bring political stability and end anarchy in the nation and claimed that the party would keep fighting against corruption to build good governance.

5. President Paudel: Technical, quality education need of hour

President Ramchandra Paudel has stressed that technical and quality education was the need of the hour. Addressing the 16th anniversary of the Bhimad municipality-6-based Jana Jyoti Campus and the inauguration of its newly constructed building on Friday, President Paudel emphasized changing the model of traditional education. ‘Education producing technical and professional human resources should be prioritized, changing the model of education imparting traditionally. The government should make policy towards it,’ said President Paudel.

6. Chitwan District Court orders to send CPN (Maoist Centre) commander Kham to custody

District Court Chitwan has ordered to sending of former CPN (Maoist Centre) commander Kali Bahadur Kham into custody. Single bench judge Dayaram Dhakal ordered Kham to keep him in custody, in the murder case of Koteshwor’s businessperson Ramhari Shrestha, on Friday. Kham was absconding for 15 years. He was arrested from Thamel, Kathmandu on April 2. Kham was presented at the court on Friday. The court gave an order to send him to prison, after listening to statements from both sides.
