Government cancels KUL CEO ‘s appointment process

Kathmandu: The government has canceled the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kathmandu Water Supply (KUKL) appointment process for the time being.

The Ministry of Water Supply canceled the process of appointment and formed an investigation committee. The Ministry of Water Supply decided to cancel the appointment process, due to the accusation of involvement in irregularities of former KUKL board members. There is an accusation that the officials took ‘advance bribes’, during the CEO appointment process.

A complaint has been filed in the Commission of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) that instead of selecting recommendations of forming a committee to appoint a CEO through open competition and with the necessary majority of members, it began the selection process and prepared a short list of eight people.  Due to the dispute in process, the Ministry of Water Supply intervened.

A 3-member investigation committee has been formed under the coordination of Madhav Tiwari, Deputy Director of General of the Department of Water and Sewerage. Ministry Senior Divisional Engineer (CDE) Prabat Shrestha and Ministry of Law, Deputy Secretary Rajaram Dahal are members of the committee.
