Politicians from Bhim Rawal to Prachanda celebrate Gaura Parva in Tundikhel (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: The religiously and culturally significant festival of Sudurpaschim Province Gaura Parva has been celebrated on a grand scale in Kathmandu. 

People have been celebrating the festival from Bhadra Krishna Shasti to Ashtami since ancient times in the Doti and Kumaon areas. This time the festival is being celebrated in Shrawan Shukla Ashtami. 

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and other leaders had gathered to celebrate the festival in Tundikhel. 

There is a ritual of women fasting on the first day of the festival. Fasting women add 5 types of cereals ‘Biruda’ in the copper or brass vessel containing water. 

The fasting women and devotee women offer Biruda in the form of Akshyata and Prasad to God Shiva and Goddess Gauri in the Gaura ghar.
