How did Ang Tawa get a severe head injury in custody?

Kathmandu: Former Speaker and Nepali Congress leader Ang Tawa Sherpa has got a severe head injury during his stay in custody. Sherpa, who had surrendered just after an arrest warrant was issued against him, had been injured.

He surrendered, after the issuance of the warrant in the fake Bhutanese refugee scandal, on Monday evening. After the severe injury to his head, police took him to the Trauma center for further treatment. He was taken back into custody after the treatment.

SP Sitaram Rijal,  the spokesperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, said that the investigation is going on regarding the incident. Rijal said, ‘We are investigating the reason behind the injury.’

Sherpa has been accused of requesting the arrested middleman for not taking the name of Congress leaders while giving a statement in the scandal case. There is a rumor that Sherpa had requested the middleman not to take the name of former home minister Balkrishna Khand. Although, the police had already arrested Khand.

The total number of arrested people has reached 14 in the case. Former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi was arrested on Sunday evening. Acting Secretary of Nepal Government Tek Narayan Pandey, and advisor of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Indrajit Thapa are also among the arrested ones.
