Joasia Zakrzewski disqualified from 2023 GB Ultras for using car

Kathmandu: Joasia Zakrzewski has been disqualified from the 2023 GB Ultras for allegedly riding on a car for two-and-a-half-mile during the race.

It was found in the tracking that she had attained a top speed of 35 mph in the 50-mile Ultramarathon on the occasion of Good Friday.

Director of the GB Ultras race, Wayne Drinkwater, said that they have submitted a report of disqualification to the Trail Running Association (TRA). TRA is also an associate member of UK Athletics.

Adrian Scott, a friend of Joasia, said that she had taken a lift in a car due to her sickness. Joasia had participated in the race completing after traveling 48 hours of flight.

Scott added that Joasia had fully supported the investigation and was sorry for all the trouble caused.

The investigation showed that Joasia had an advantage of 25 minutes to bag the third position in the race.

The third place in the marathon has been given to Mel Skyes after the disqualification of Joasia.

About 400 runners participated in the race, which started in Manchester and ended in Liverpool.

Joasia had registered a world record in a 48-hour race by running 255 miles in the Taipei Ultramarathon.

She had also won a silver in 2011, and a bronze in 2014 and 2015, while representing Great Britain in the IAU World 100km Championships. Joasia has also represented Team Scotland at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
