Code of conduct for upcoming by-election comes into effect

Kathmandu: The Code of Conduct, for the by-election to be held in Bara, Chitwan, and Tanahun on 23rd April, has come into effect on Friday.

The code of conduct has come into effect for the by-election in Tanahun Constituency Number 2, Chitwan 2, and Bara 2 as per Election Commission.

Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari after the meeting of the Election Commission and the Election Code of Conduct Central Monitoring held on Thursday had concluded that the code of conduct for sub-section purposes is to be applicable to all the concerned parties from Friday onwards.

Commissioner Bhandari said that the commission would not back off from any offense to punish the violator of the code of conduct. There are some codes of conduct that the federal, state, and local governments are bound to follow.

The code of conduct is applicable to the Nepal government and ministers, state governments and ministers, constitutional bodies and officials, security agencies, security personnel, and employees, candidates and related persons, persons holding public office, etc.

The Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee will be checking the execution of the code of conduct. The commission has also informed that one can file complaints along with evidence regarding the violation of the code of conduct in written or oral form or using social media or other appropriate channels.

The Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee has directed not to produce, publish, and broadcast false, misleading, and malicious expressions, deformation and, personally accused content.

Likewise, election campaign-related programs need to be completely stopped before 48 hours of the election.
