Asia has no future if chaos and conflicts allowed: New Chinese Premier

Kathmandu: New Chinese Premier Li Qiang has warned against the future of Asia, saying the region must avoid chaos and conflicts for greater success.

‘To achieve greater success, chaos and conflicts must not be allowed to happen in Asia, or the future will be lost,’ Li said on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference.

During his address to an international audience of political and business leaders, Le urged the Asian leaders not to take sides in conflicts as tensions continue to rise between China and the United States.

Li also called for countries in Asia to guard against the trend of decoupling and trade protectionism, despite unprecedented uncertainty in the global environment. ‘We oppose trade protectionism and supply chain decoupling and want to ensure smooth global industrial and supply chain,’ he added.

Li’s comments at the Boao Forum for Asia, dubbed Asia’s Davos, sends a strong signal that the world’s second largest economy wants to play a stabilizing role in global trade, which is mired by geopolitical tensions and financial turbulence.

‘In this uncertain world, the certainty China offers is an anchor for world peace and development,’ Le was quoted as saying, ‘We’ll join hands to build a more dynamic growth center and inject more certainty into the global economic recovery.’
