Biden slams Putin’s nuclear deployment plan as ‘dangerous talk’

Kathmandu: US President Joe Biden on Tuesday slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stated plan to deploy nuclear weapons in neighboring Belarus, calling it a “dangerous” talk.

“This is dangerous kind of talk and it’s worrisome,” Biden told reporters at the White House.

The Kremlin leader announced on Saturday that he was ordering the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. But Ukraine and western countries have condemned Putin’s announcement.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry condemned Putin’s plan on Sunday, calling it another provocative step by his administration. NATO alliance also said in a statement that the Russian president’s nuclear rhetoric is “dangerous and irresponsible.”

Likewise, Washington has denounced the plan. However, US officials say they have seen no sign of Russia actually moving nuclear weaponry.

“They haven’t done that yet,” Biden said.
