Ballistic missile military drills begin in Russia

Kathmandu: Russian Defence Ministry has started conducting military drills for military troops with Yars intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system.

The ministry started the exercise for strengthening the nuclear power of the nation on Wednesday.

The ministry said in a statement that the exercise has the participation of more than 3000 military human resources with the availability of access to around 300 pieces of equipment.

According to the ministry, there will be cooperation between Central Military District and the Aerospace Force to form various strategic missile-men units that will undergo the techniques like camouflage and counter-modern aerial reconnaissance means.

The ministry informed that the deployment of troops will take place in three regions of Russia during the exercise.

The operational range of ICBM is 12000 km. It also has the potential of carrying multiple nuclear warheads.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been planning to establish the Yars missile system as the backbone of the ground-based component of the nuclear armory.

Russia has been carrying out various military drills independently and in collaboration with South Africa, Belarus, and China since the beginning of the Ukraine invasion in February 2023.
