Russian Navy’s supersonic missiles test in the Sea of Japan

Kathmandu: Russian Navy has carried a mock target test for firing supersonic antiship missiles in the Sea of Japan.

The Russian Defence Ministry has said that the navy tested supersonic missiles on an artificial enemy warship on Tuesday.

The ministry added that the two Moskit supersonic cruise missiles were successful in hitting the target.

The missiles possessed the capacity of nuclear warheads. The target was placed 100 km far from the missile launcher.

The ministry said in a statement that the missiles ship of the Pacific Fleet had fired Moskit cruise missiles at a mock enemy sea target in Peter the Great Bay in the Sea of Japan.

P-270 Moskit missile, a medium-range supersonic cruise missile, was used in the mock targeting. The NATO reporting name of the missile is SS-N-22 Sunburn.

The Foreign Minister of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi said that his nation is alert regarding the military operations of Russia. Hayashi said in a press conference that no damages had been reported due to the missile test.

The Defence Ministry of Japan has not commented regarding the test.
