Prime Minister Borne meeting unions and opposition for pension reforms

Kathmandu: The Prime Minister of France Elisabeth Borne has decided to meet the trade unions and opposition leaders for discussing pension reforms.

Borne gave the statement after people started showing violated protest against the changing retirement age.

Borne, in an interview with the AFP news agency, said that the meeting would take place after April 3.

She added that the government is in the process of getting approval from the Constitutional Council in order to go ahead with the pension bill.

Borne had used Article 49.3 of the constitution while pushing the draft legislation in National Assembly. This omitted the process of waiting for the majority of votes in the parliament for approval.

This resulted in the triggering of votes of no-confidence twice. The government succeeded in surviving the first one that started getting furious reactions from the people.

French protestors came into the street after President Emmanuel Macron accelerated the process of increasing the retirement age to 64 years from 62 years without considering a parliamentary vote.
