Netanyahu’s dismissal of Defence Minister results Mass Protest in Israel

Kathmandu: Thousands of protestors have revolted in cities across Israel after the dismissal of Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Gallant for commenting against the country’s judicial reforms on Sunday.

This made tens of thousands of people raise their voices against the decision. The protestors came into the street wearing the national flag, blocking the highway, and even lit bonfires in huge mass in Tel Aviv.

People blocked the highway for two hours. Police used cannons and water jets to control the crowd.

Police even scuffled and arrested the protestors, who were protesting outside the prime minister’s home in Jerusalem.

The government of Netanyahu had been planning for overhauling the judiciary since a month. This had given rise to a number of protests in Israel. Even the United States and its allies have started noticing the situation.

Prime Minister’s spontaneous action of removing Gallant from the position of Defence Minister has hinted at the execution of the plan this week.

Gallant, being part of the ruling party, said that the deep divisions in the plan might be a threat to the strength of the military. The comment resulted in his dismissal from the post.

But, the mass movement of people in the streets must have messaged the leaders to rethink their plan. Micky Zohar, Culture Minister, the party is in the thought of supporting Netanyahu if he drops the plan.

There is the possibility of another protest outside the Israeli parliament, Knesset, in Jerusalem. According to the Israeli media, the alliance Netanyahu is planning a meeting to resolve the problem on Monday.
