Bordeaux town hall on fire, French protestors opposed new retirement age

Kathmandu: French protestors have set the Bordeaux town hall on fire.

According to the interior ministry, 1 lakh 19 thousand people were present in the protest going against the legislative decision of increasing the retirement age to 64 in Paris on Thursday evening.

Police had to use tear gas to control the situation and 33 people were arrested at the location. People started protesting after the legislation raised the retirement age from 62 to 64.

The culprit, who set the fire, was not recognized, but the firefighters succeeded to control the fire instantly.

The Prime Minister of France tweeted that it was the right of people to demonstrate against disagreement but the violating degradation was not acceptable.

The unions have also decided to go for another demonstration next Tuesday according to BBC. There is the schedule of King’s Charles III visit to the southwest city of Bordeaux on the same day.

But Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin assured about the tight security and positive thoughts about welcoming the King into the country.

The government is optimistic about the crowd losing momentum regarding the protest and things getting back to normal in the coming days.
