19 people died in Bangladesh in Bus Accident

Kathmandu: 19 people have lost their lives in a bus accident in Bangladesh. The bus carrying 40 people smashed a highway fence and tumbled 30 meters into a roadside ditch on Sunday morning.

The police suspected that the driver lost his control which led to crashing into the railing of the major expressway and falling into the ditch.

According to the APF news agency, the death number reached 19 with the critically injured number rising to 12.

The accident occurred 80 kilometers far from the capital city of Dhaka. Bangladesh has been prone to road accidents.

Lack of maintenance of vehicles and the absence of well-trained drivers are the supposed reasons behind the increasing number of accidents.

Although the government has a plan of reducing the number of accidents to half by 2030, the result is still disappointing.

About 400 people lost their lives in accidents last year. During the Eid al-Adha holidays, about 800 people were injured in more than 300 road accidents.

‘9951 people lost their lives in road accidents last year’, reports a Bangladesh passengers’ welfare association.
