Kathmandu: Four India soldiers have lost their lives in a shooting incident inside military station located in Bhathinda of Punjab.
The shooting incident took place on Wednesday morning at around 4:35 am, the Indian media has reported. Western Command of the Indian Army said that four army personnel were killed in the incident.
‘Four casualties reported in a firing incident in the early hours of the morning around 4:35 hours inside Bathinda Military Station today,’ the Command said, ‘The Station Quick Reaction Teams were activated, and the area was cordoned off and sealed. Search operation is in progress.’
Bathinda SSP Gulneet Khuruna said as per the information shared by the defence establishment, no terror threat is suspected at this stage. He said the identities of the victims are yet to be confirmed by the military station authorities.
‘Initial information says some army person opened indiscriminate firing on others. Preliminarily, no sabotage is suspected but details are awaited,’ said Khuruna.
All the entry gates of the Army Cantonment in Bathinda have been closed. About two days ago, one Insas rifle with 28 cartridges had gone missing. Some army personnel may be behind this incident, ANI said citing Punjab Police sources.
