Late Nembang’s Biography: ANNFSU to Constituent Assembly’s Chairperson

Kathmandu: Constituent Assembly’s Chairperson and former Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang has passed away.

Nembang had a stroke in his home in Baluwatar. The family members found him unconscious in the bathroom. He passed away when he was rushed to the Teaching Hospital.

Nembang was a remarkable leader in Nepali politics. His soft skills in handling chaotic situations and leading to negotiations were one of his major attractions. He unanimously became the Speaker all four times. Nembang was regarded as a graceful and strong leader. He had the potential of uniting the leaders and moving heads. 

Nembang was born on 28th Falgun, 2009 B.S. in Suntalabari of Ilam. He became the elected Chairman of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) of Mahendra  Multiple Campus in 2029 B.S. He was jailed in a case relating to the Royal system in 2033 B.S. Nembang became a member of the then CPN (UML).

CPN (ML) and CPN (Marxist) were formed to become CPN (UML) in 2047 B.S. Nembang was nominated as the head of the Law Department in CPN (UML). He became the central member in 2058 B.S.

He was elected as the central member of the 7th Convention of UML. He became a standing committee member after the 9th Convention in 2071 B.S. Nembang became the vice-chairperson and after the 10th Convention, in 2078 B.S. 

Similarly, Nembang became the chairperson of the National Assembly in 2048 and 2052 B.S. He took the responsibility of the Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs in 2052 B.S. Nembang handled the ministry again in 2056 B.S. He won the parliamentary elections. Then, he became the General Administration Minister. 

Nembang became the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament in 2057 B.S. He was chosen as the Speaker of the Interim Parliament in 2063 B.S. He became the Chairperson in 2064 and 2070 B.S. 

Likewise, Nembang was elected as a Member of the Parliament in 2064 and 2070 B.S. from Ilam. He was elected as the House of Representatives (HoR) member, from the general elections, in 2074 and 2079 B.S. 

The demise of Nembang had not only left CPN(UML) but the whole nation heartbroken.
