Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started to sprinkle bio larvicide to destroy the larva of mosquitoes and control dengue.
Mayor Balen Shah claimed the use of larvicide to be the first one in Nepal. Mayor Shah mentioned that larvicide was made up of medicinal and plant species and won’t affect other species other than mosquitoes and their larvae.
Larvicide needs to spread on the surface of the water. This will produce poison in the stomach of larvae and destroy the digestion procedure of larvae. It will halt the growth of the larvae and ultimately kills them. Shah said that larvicide will kill the larvae and pupa of all kinds of mosquitoes responsible for spreading diseases like dengue, filaria, malaria, chikungunya, etc.
KMC has also initiated a 24-hour hotline telephone service to provide free counseling on dengue disease. One can call 1180 for counseling and 102 for the ambulance to reach the hospital free of cost.
Mayor Shah said that arrangements were made in the health promotional centers for providing the treatment for dengue including medicines including cetamol, and oral rehydration salt.
