Who will become acting CM of Koshi Province? Province Head stays silent!

Biratnagar: Who will be the acting Chief Minister (CM) of Koshi Province? There is confusion. Even Koshi Province head Parashuram Khampung didn’t give any decision. Khapung called for claiming the designation of the Chief Minister within 4 days but didn’t speak about acting CM.

The Supreme Court canceled the appointment of CM Uddav Thapa but didn’t give a mandate to Hikmat Karki. This has fueled the confusion regarding the acting CM of the province.

The Constitution has not imagined the vacuum of the government. In such a case, there must be a CM. But, who? The confusion is on. On top of that, everyone is clarifying the situation in their own way.

Attorney General Dinmani Pokharel along with government lawyers has been expecting Thapa in the place of acting CM. One government lawyer said, ‘Uddab Thapa will act as the acting CM until the formation of the new government.’

But, Constitutionalist Dr. Bhimarjun Acharya has a different perspective. He said, ‘Uddav Thapa was not the CM. His procedure for becoming CM was found unconstitutional. As it was unconstitutional, he was not CM. That’s the essence of the constitution.’

Similarly, Advocate Tikaram Bhattarai also supports the opinion of Acharya. He said that the cancelation of the appointment means the appointment was illegal. Between all the curiosities, predictions, and analyses of the acting CM, the question still remains the same.
