Kathmandu: Nigerian soldiers have overthrown Nigerian President Mohamed Bazoum.

According to Aljazeera, a group of soldiers announced on national television the removal of Nigerian President Mohamed Bazoum on Wednesday night.

Colonel–Major Amadou Abdramane said that the bad governance and a deteriorating security situation had resulted in the end of the regime. The soldiers prayed for the well-being of Bazoum.

Abdramane was surrounded by nine soldiers in the TV announcement. He said that the borders were closed, declaration of a nationwide curfew, and suspension of all institutions.

The military had warned against foreign interference regarding the coup. The group introduced themselves as the National Council for Safeguarding the Country.

The elite guard unit was found to be in an ‘anti-Republican demonstration’ on Tuesday. There are reports of rebellious forces holding President Bazoum at the palace. But the actual state of Bazoum is not clear.
