India to open Dhauliganga dam tomorrow, flood alert in Mahakali river

Kathmandu: India is prepared to open the Dhauliganga dam on Tuesday.

The Indian side has informed the Nepali side that the dam of Dhauliganga Hydropower Project located at Chhirkilla in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand will be opened on Tuesday morning.

According to Pradeep Singh Dhami, the Assistant Chief District Officer of Darchula, India will open the Dhauliganga dam for about 15 hours from 5 am to 8 pm tomorrow.

The District Administration Office has urged the people living nearby to stay alert as the water level in the Mahakali River will increase after opening the shutters of the Dhauliganga dam.

People have been urged to remain alert as the water level in the Mahakali River, which flows towards India through Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura and Kanchanpur, will rise.

The administration has also requested not to go to the banks of the river for fishing or any other purposes.
