Guru Purnima being observed nationwide

Kathmandu: Guru Purnima (Teacher’s Day) is being observed across the country today.

The Day that falls on the full moon day on Ashadha month in the lunar calendar is marked by paying respect and expressing gratitude to Gurus or teachers.

On the Day, people especially students pay respect to Gurus or teachers for imparting them teachings and education. They also offer garlands and delicacies to Gurus or teachers and receive blessings from them.

Senior people in terms of knowledge, experience, and strength, mother, father, great grandmother, great grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, and mother-in-law are also respected as teachers, according to the Hindu tradition.

The persons who remove the darkness of ignorance by the light of knowledge are termed Guru according to theology and the Day is most important in the eastern tradition.
