CM Karki fails to receive vote of confidence

Kathmandu: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has failed to gain a vote of confidence.

Karki gained 46 votes after the completion of the vote of confidence. A minimum of 57 votes were required for a vote of confidence. He failed to get one vote for the minimum criteria.

46 MPs voted in favor of Karki in the assembly. 43 MPs voted against Karki. A total of 89 MPs participated in the voting. As a result, Chief Minister Karki has lost his position. Karki would take the responsibility of an acting CM till the appointment of a new one.

But the appointment procedure for the new CM is not easy. It is difficult even for the opposition party to gain the majority. 46 MPs are in opposition to the assembly. If the opposition party fails to gather majority votes, there is the chance for mid-election.
