Five victims of Gorkha Jeep mishap identified

Kathmandu: Five people were killed when a jeep carrying those returning from marriage ceremony met with an accident in Gorkha.

The dead have been identified as Prabin Thapa (19), Bir Bahadur Thapa (28), Niraj Thapa (19), Nabina Thapa (19) and Dhan Bahadur Thapa (64) of Shaheed Lakhan-5.

They were killed when the jeep with registration number 3 01-023 Cha 24 27 overturned at Shaheed Lakhan Rural Municipality-3 in Gorkha last night, said Chief District Officer of Gorkha, Dinesh Sagar Bhusal.

According to Bhusal, 12 more people were injured in the accident. The ill-fated jeep was carrying those returning home from Taklung of Shaheed Lakhan-5 at Chilingkot-3.

The bride and groom are safe as they were travelling in another vehicle.

According to the villagers, the bride and groom had earlier got married on their own and had gone to the girl’s house along with boy’s relatives and friends on Thursday for formal ceremony (Tikatalo).
