Heavy rainfall recorded in many places, west Terai still reeling under extreme heat

Kathmandu: Heavy rainfall has occurred at many places of mid and eastern regions throughout the night.

The monsoon is now shifting from east to west a day after it entered Nepal on Wednesday. This has caused a lot of rainfall in the eastern and central regions, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The weather center in Khudibazaar of Lamjung district recorded 124 mm of rainfall in the last 12 hours. The Flood Information Center has warned of danger.

Similarly, Gharedhunga of Lamjung and Sikles of Kaski received more than 80 mm of rainfall. It is also considered a dangerous sign. While Barpak of Gorkha received 77 mm rainfall and Dhunibeshi of Dhading district recorded 72 mm of rainfall.

It has been raining in Kathmandu and adjoining areas since Wednesday evening. In the last 12 hours, 56 mm rainfall has been recorded in Shivapuri Dhap Dam, 36 mm in Budhanilkantha, 44 mm in Kirtipur and 32 mm in Bhaktapur.

The eastern region also saw heavy rainfall overnight. Sunsari received 32 mm rainfall while Ilam, Okhaldhunga, Sindhuli and Ramechhap recorded 29 mm, 42 mm, 44 mm and 41 mm rainfall.

Though the monsoon has caused heavy rainfall in the eastern and central Nepal, the western Terai is still reeling under scorching heat. No rainfall has been recorded in any parts of Terai lying west of Sindhuli.

According to the Division, the monsoon is gradually moving towards west and there will be rainfall in western parts of Terai in one or two days.
