Ukraine and Russia blame each other for Kakhovka dam’s collapse; Flood affects lives

Kathmandu:  The collapse of the Kakhovka dam in Southern Ukraine has raised concerns about the lives of people getting tough.

The explosion on the dam in Ukraine, resulted in a huge flood in the area, on Tuesday. This has resulted in the need for the evacuation of about 40 thousand people from the area.

According to Aljazeera, Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian President, coined the collapse as an act of ‘mass environmental destruction.’

President Zelensky said that the damage to the critical infrastructure would not shake Ukraine’s strategies of reclaiming the invaded territories from Russian military forces. He is positive about reclaiming all the invaded lands from Russia.

Zelensky claimed that the blowing up of the dam was used as a weapon to hamper the Ukrainian forces. He said that Russian forces destroyed the water reservoir, which is a significant water supply to Crimea, in fear of fleeing from Crimea.

But, the Kremlin has accused Ukraine of the collapse of the dam. Russia defined the collapse as a way of distracting attention from a weak counterattack against Russia.

Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defence Minister, said that the response of Russian military forces towards the counteroffensive in battles resulted in the death of thousands of soldiers. Shoigu claimed that Ukraine destroyed the dam in order to reduce the attack of Russian forces.

UN Relief Chief Martin Griffiths has feared life becoming intolerably tough who are facing the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
