3 including former VC found guilty in BPKIHS corruption scandal

Kathmandu: The Special Court has found three officials including the former Vice-Chancellor guilty in the medical equipment purchasing corruption scandal.

The court found B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS)’s former VC Balbhadra Prasad Das, former Registrar Nanda Kumar Thapa, and former Director Arbin Kumar Sinha guilty in the corruption scandal.

The court has sentenced one year in jail and fined 25 thousand rupees to each of the three guilty ones. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a lawsuit against 8 people including the then Vice-chancellor Das.

Equipment suppliers Chetan Agrawal and Umesh Agrawal, Registrar Tul Bahadur Shrestha,
Accounts Head Dineshraj Dahal and Deputy Manager Amil Srivastava received a clean chit from the court.

The CIAA had claimed 4 crores 8 lakhs from Das, 3 crores 75 lakhs from director Sinha, 1 crore 96 lakhs from the then Registrar Thapa, and 56 lakhs from Registrar Shrestha 56 lakhs.
