Kathmandu: About 22 people have died after a bus fell off a bridge in Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
According to the Indian national daily Times of India, three children and 10 women were among the demised ones, and 31 people were injured in the accident. The treatment of the injured people is taking place in the Khargone district hospital.
Rakesh Mohan, Khargone Sub-Divisional Officer (police), said that the bus was moving to Indore when it broke the railing of the Borad river bridge.
The incident took place 34 km near the headquarters of the district; Dongargaon. He reported that the river was a dry one. The initial investigation suspected the loss of control over the vehicle as the cause of the accident.
The bus had tumbled down after falling from the bridge. The local people positioned the bus on its wheels to rescue the passengers before the arrival of the police.
Likewise, the government of Madhya Pradesh has announced an immediate financial aid of Rs.4 lakh each to the families of the demised one, and Rs. 50 thousand to the severely injured ones and Rs. 25 thousand having minor injuries in the accident.
