Kathmandu: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has coordinated the drone training for the 3 teams of security agencies.

NDRRMA coordinated the training program to ease the search, rescue, and relief operations during times of natural disasters. Each team comprises 7 participants.

Spokesperson and Information Officer Suresh Sunar said the 2-day training included drone training, as well as the use of the technology and its effectiveness during disasters.

A trainer said that when the flood hit last October (Asoj), they only came to know about the incident after seeing the photos and videos on social media, and at that time, rescue would have been effective if technology like a drone had been used at that time.

However, there was also a shortage of equipment during the time of the drone training session. The government and stakeholders must initiate rapid action to purchase the necessary equipment.

Otherwise, the usual lengthy procedure of bringing such technologies to the access of the security agencies moves in snail’s pace. If such a procedure continues, the security personnel might only get the equipment just to capture the post-disaster footage rather than using it to save the lives of the people.
