Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Oli has inaugurated the overpass built at Gwarko in Lalitpur has been inaugurated

Following the inauguration in the presence of Valley Traffic Police Chief Nawaraj Adhikari on Friday, the Gwarko overpass has been opened for vehicular traffic.

The overpass was completed 39 months after construction began. The contract was awarded under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model to Ashish–Samanantar–Railig JV for Rs. 170.688 million.

The construction had started in the Nepali month of Falgun of 2078 Bikram Sambat with a target to finish within two years. According to the original agreement, the overpass was supposed to be completed by Falgun 12, 2080. However, after missing that deadline, the completion date was extended to Asar 2081. Even then, the work wasn’t completed on time.

A further extension was granted until Poush 9, 2081. When the work remained unfinished, the company was fined starting from Poush 10, 2081. The company finally completed the project while paying the daily penalty.
