Nepal lost to the Netherlands in historic third Super Over

Kathmandu: Nepal has suffered a defeat against the Netherlands in a historic third Super Over of the second match of the Scotland T20I Tri Series.

After the regular 20 overs and the first two Super Overs ended in a tie, the match was pushed into a third Super Over, where the Netherlands came out victorious. This was also Nepal’s 100th T20I match.

Losing the toss and batting first, the Netherlands scored 152 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, setting a target of 153 runs for Nepal. Teja Nidamanuru top-scored with 35 runs, while Vikramjit Singh contributed 30 and Saqib Zulfiqar remained unbeaten on 24.

For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane bowled brilliantly, taking 3 wickets for just 18 runs in 4 overs. Nandan Yadav took 2 wickets, while Lalit Rajbanshi and Kushal Bhurtel picked up 1 wicket each.

Chasing a target of 153, Nepal also managed 152 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs, resulting in a tie and pushing the game into a Super Over. Captain Rohit Paudel was the top scorer for Nepal with 48 runs, but couldn’t take the team across the line.

Kushal Bhurtel added 34 runs. In the final over, Nepal needed 16 runs, and Nandan Yadav hit a four on the last ball to tie the match. For the Netherlands, Daniel Doram took 3 wickets for 14 runs.

In the first Super Over, Nepal scored 19 runs and set a target of 20 for the Netherlands. However, the Netherlands also managed 19 runs, resulting in another tie.

In the second Super Over, the Netherlands batted first and scored 17 runs. In response, Nepal also scored 17 runs, pushing the match into a third Super Over.

In the third Super Over, Nepal lost captain Rohit Paudel on the very first ball, and Rupesh Singh played two dot balls before getting out on the fourth delivery. Nepal couldn’t score any runs. The Netherlands, needing just 1 run, hit a six off the first ball and sealed the win.

Now, Nepal will compete against the home team, Scotland, at 7:45 PM today.
