RCB defeats PBKS by 6 runs to lift IPL trophy

Kathmandu: Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket title.

Ending an 18-year-long wait, Bangalore clinched a historic victory on Tuesday by defeating Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final.

Chasing a target of 191 runs set by Bangalore, Punjab managed to score only 184 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Despite Shashank Singh hitting 3 sixes and 1 four in the final over, it wasn’t enough to secure victory. Shashank remained unbeaten on 61 runs off 30 balls, while Josh Inglis contributed 39 runs.

For Bangalore, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya took 2 wickets each. Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal, and Romario Shepherd claimed 1 wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, Bangalore scored 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Virat Kohli top-scored for Bangalore with 43 runs. Captain Rajat Patidar made 26 runs, Liam Livingstone scored 25, and Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma each added 24 runs.

For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh took 3 wickets for 40 runs in 4 overs. Kyle Jamieson also grabbed 3 wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yuzvendra Chahal took 1 wicket each.

Previously, Bangalore had reached the IPL final in 2009, 2011, and 2016 but had never won the title—until now.
