Government’s Economic Survey: Public debt exceeds Rs. 2.676 trillion in current fiscal year

Kathmandu: In the current fiscal year 2024/25, public debt has exceeded Rs. 2.676 trillion. Presenting the Economic Survey in Parliament today, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel shared that public debt has reached 43.8% of the total gross domestic product (GDP).

With the GDP size reaching Rs. 6.107 trillion, public debt stands at Rs. 2.676 trillion 4 crore. Minister Poudel stated that the fiscal deficit for the current fiscal year is Rs. 16.19 billion. He also mentioned that in the fiscal year 2023/24, the fiscal deficit was Rs. 70.36 billion.

According to the government’s survey, economic growth for the current fiscal year is expected to increase by 4.61%. Provinces other than Madhesh, Koshi, and Sudurpaschim are projected to have economic growth above the national average.

The government estimates that per capita income will reach $1,517 in the current fiscal year.
