Foreign Minister Dr Rana: Nation cannot be developed with present negative thinking

Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has said the country and society could not be developed with the pervasive negative thinking.

Addressing a reception organised by the Nepali People’s Liaison Committee, Japan in Tokyo on Thursday, she said negative thinking like ‘nothing will happen and it is not possible’ is being brewed and propagated, which will lead to neither societal nor national development.

Minister Dr Rana emphasised that since such thinking exists among political parties within the country, Nepali society, and Nepalis living abroad, there is a need to abandon this tendency and create a positive environment for nation-building.

‘I don’t see a positive presentation or expression of anything. Good and positive works have also been carried out in society and in the country, but they are rarely recognized as good. It seems like everyone wants to go viral in the media. I only see the mindset that negative publicity gets more attention. This is not how a country functions,’ said Minister Dr Rana.

Minister Dr Rana urged the non-resident Nepalis to unite and engage with a positive mindset. ‘The Nepali diaspora around the world has a great power. If you unite, you will gain significant strength to fight for your rights. Therefore, my request is, do not get entangled in trivial matters, strive to create a single NRNA,’ said Foreign Minister Dr Rana.

She clarified that the government facilitated the recent NRNA convention by complying with the Supreme Court’s directive and that a new executive committee was formed based on consensus. She also urged Nepalis around the world to invest the skills, knowledge, and capital they have acquired abroad for the development of Nepal.

Likewise, Minister Dr Rana said that after becoming the Foreign Minister she had a separate department established in the ministry to provide consular and other necessary services related to foreign affairs to the Nepali diaspora around the world.

Minister Dr Rana said the cooperation of all Nepalis is also required for this. ‘We have established a separate branch for the economic diplomacy of the Nepali diaspora and are moving forward with our work. For this, the significant role of all Nepalis around the world is essential, and the Government of Nepal also expects similar support,’ said Minister Dr Rana.
