Minister Yadav: Govt. committed to fulfill people's basic needs, affirms

Kathmandu: Minister for Water Supply, Pradeep Yadav, has said that the government is committed to fulfilling the basic needs of the people.

Inauguration the Salkot extensive water supply project located in Panchapuri Municipality-1, 2, and 3 in Shivashaktidham, Surkhet on Tuesday, he said that the government is working to fulfil the basic needs of the people as mentioned in the constitution. Minister Yadav stressed on safe drinking water to improve the health and living standards of the Nepali people.

‘With the completion of the water supply project, residents will have easy access to clean water, which will positively impact health, education, and the economy,’ said Minister Yadav.

Minister Yadav said that ensuring access to drinking water for the people is the government’s main priority, emphasizing that he is seriously committed not only to the formulation of plans but also to their effective implementation.

Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Er Ramu Kumar Shrestha, said that due to climate change and other reasons, citizens are facing water problems during dry season and issues caused by water during the rainy season, and the Department is proactively working on solutions.

According to Minister Yadav, the Panchpuri Salkot Extensive Water Supply Project will solve the drinking water problem of the people of Panchapuri for the next 30 years. The chairperson of the Salakot Comprehensive Drinking Water Consumer Committee, Dilli Ram Niur, expressed gratitude for the government’s prioritization of the project and its timely completion. He urged for such services to be expanded to other wards of the Municipality in the future.

According to Manish Kumar Raj, the acting head of the Federal Drinking Water and Sanitation Management Project Office in Surkhet, it is anticipated that at least 15,000 citizens from about 2,771 households in three wards of Panchapuri Municipality will directly benefit from the Salkot Extensive Water Supply Project.
