IGP Thapa orders High Alert for May 29; Warns scuffles will not be tolerated

Kathmandu: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa has instructed police officers to maintain high alertness on Jestha 15 (May 29), due to a planned demonstration of pro-monarchists.

IGP Thapa issued the directive to the heads of police offices in the Kathmandu Valley during a meeting held at the Nepal Police Club in Bhrikutimandap. IGP Thapa emphasized that political system and constitution-opposing activities must be taken seriously

‘Give attention to enforcing the law, ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property, and maintaining normal daily life. Any anarchic activity during the protest will not be tolerated,’ said IGP Thapa.

PM Oli also stated that physical altercations among police personnel will no longer be tolerated. ‘It is extremely inappropriate and disgraceful for a senior officer to assault a lower-ranking staff member in public. Physically attacking someone on the spot like that is not acceptable,’ said IGP Thapa.
