Kathmandu: Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama, has stressed the need to ensure proportional opportunities for all by the laws.

During his address to an orientation on gender equality and social inclusion organized by the Province Good Governance Centre, Bagmati Province in Lalitpur for Province Assembly (PA) women members on Wednesday, the Chief Minister stressed the need to focus on the gender-responsive budget (GRB) approach in the budget formulation and its implementation.

‘The Bagamati Province has a significant presence of women members. I expect to see a great stride in the achievement of inclusion. The orientation will be crucial in aligning with our efforts of gender equality and social inclusion,’ said Chief Minister Lama.

Bagmati PA Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak described the event as a positive step towards addressing the concerns of women in the budget. ‘Inclusion is the beauty of the constitution. It is indeed a positive outcome that women’s 33 percent participation has been guaranteed in each state’s apparatus. There still lies challenges for addressing inequalities within the women.’ said Pathak.

He also stressed the need of empowering the women economically, highlighting the need of increasing the women’s participation from 33 to 51. He also claimed that Nepal is in the forefront in terms of promoting the women’s participation in the state’s apparatus not only in the South Asia, but also in the Asia.

Likewise, Bagmati PA Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain said the event will be helpful in making the upcoming budget gender-responsive. Province Good Governance’s Center’s executive director Gopal Krishna Neupane said the event aimed to promote the implementation of the principle of social inclusion in the budget formulation procedures.
