Kathmandu: The government has announced that athletes who win medals at the international level will be provided scholarships for their studies.

Unveiling the government’s policies and programs on Friday, President Ram Chandra Paudel said that arrangements would be made for scholarships for internationally medal-winning athletes and their children.

Additionally, the government has planned to transform the Tribhuvan University (TU) cricket ground into a modern, international-standard cricket stadium.

President Paudel stated that the TU cricket ground would be modernized and that the construction of sports stadiums would involve the participation of all three levels of government and the private sector.

Furthermore, the government plans to organize national and international sports competitions.

A “Sports School Program” will be launched in collaboration with federal, provincial, and local governments, along with national sports associations. Training, coaching, and sports programs will be conducted from the school level to support athletes.

Legal provisions will be introduced to ensure participation from all three tiers of government and the private sector in stadium construction. The policy also mentions integrating sports with the private sector’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The government plans to regularly organize sporting activities to support the physical and mental development of youth.
