Kathmandu: The staging of the drama ‘Urf Darasingh’ is underway at Mandala Theatre.

The drama Urf Darasingh is the sequel to Jhoda, which Chulachuli Theatre staged at Shilpee Theatre in 2023 (2080 B.S). The main theme of the drama ‘Urf Darasingh’ is about the Jhoda settlement’s transitional period and struggle against the Panchayat regime from 1963 (2020) to 1977 (2034) Bikram Sambat.

Darasingh is one of the characters that emerged during the Panchayat era. It was the phase when Jhoda land management was difficult, the oppression of the panchayat regime, and the implementation of the Land Reform. This dialectical nature has been presented in the drama.

Likewise, the story of the drama revolves around how the character became DaraSingh. Who made the character transform into Darasingh?

Akash Suhang, Anjana Rai, Man Kumar  Yohang, Lahana Rai, Prabin Magar, Dawa Sherpa, Mani K. Rai, Numa Rai, Sampada Thulung, Manik Shankar, Prabin Bhandari, Sanjit Thulung, Ajaya Lama, Yugal Limbu, Pawan Gole, Yugal Shrestha, and Ujwal Rai are the actors of the drama.

Suma Lingden is the writer of the drama. Chetan Angthupo is the director and Rupesh Lama is the co-director of drama. Suman Rai  is the producer of ‘Urf Darasingh.’

The drama will be staged every day at 5:30 p.m. except Monday. There is also an additional show on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. It will conclude on May 25 (Jestha 11, 2082).
