Rabi Lamichhane’s case kept in “unseen” list

Kathmandu: The case of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, hearing under the bench of Justice Hari Phuyal, has been placed on unheard.

The habeas corpus petition filed by Lamichhane regarding the alleged misuse of a passport has been listed under “unseen” after Justice Phuyal decided not to proceed with the case.

The petition, filed by Lamichhane’s wife Nikita Poudel on Sunday, claimed that Lamichhane was being kept in illegal detention. The hearing was initially scheduled for Monday at the bench of Justice Phuyal.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane is currently being held at Rupandehi prison after the High Court of Butwal ordered his remand in custody for further investigation. He had previously been released on bail of NPR 10 million by the Rupandehi District Court in connection with a fraud case related to the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal.

However, the High Court overturned the district court’s decision on Chaitra 22 (April 4), ordering that Lamichhane be sent to jail for pre-trial detention.

Lamichhane appealed the High Court’s order at the Supreme Court. In response to his appeal, the Supreme Court had already requested a clarification report regarding the matter.
